Part I: September 2, 2007Over the past decade starting in 1998 I experienced a restricted flow when peeing. This came on gradually. One day I discovered that I was not emptying my bladder totally. I did not get that feeling of emptiness. In fact, I felt that there was more to come but nothing came forth. Finally, my wife encouraged me to see an Urologist, Dr Lewis of Newark, Ohio, to see what was going on. Dr. Lewis examined me yearly and then changed to semi annually. Dr. Lewis did state that I had an enlarged prostate before showing any symptoms. At that time his statement did not register with me as to it implications in relation to peeing. I was placed on medications of Flomax, 0. 4 mg for relaxing the prostate and Finasteride, 5mg for prostate reduction. I am also taking Aciphex, 20mg for GERD (Reflux). After arriving in Ridley Park, PA in March 2003, my wife and I found a primary health physician, Dr. Christopher Snyder, who recommended me an Urologist, Dr. Arsht of Springfield and Delaware County Hospitals. I have been seeing him since then. Because my peeing flow seemed to be going OK I asked Dr Arsht about stopping the Flomax to see what would happen to the flow. He agreed and stated that it would take about three days for the Flomax to wash out of my system. I stopped and below are the results. Thursday, January 11, 2007Afternoon at work started to get initial pain located above the penis where the bladder is located. I believe the bladder was filling up faster then I was peeing. Later the pain subsided as I peed more and went away during the night. Sunday, January 14, 2007Pain still comes during daylight waking hours. Must be because I am drinking more fluids. I have to use the bathroom more frequently and get up three to four times a night since last Thursday. It seems that all of a sudden the Flomax is working only at half to three quarter’s potency or perhaps the prostate is inflamed. Still taking my prostate pills daily as prescribed. I had to start taking the Flomax again because it felt like I was peeing through a vice causing me to strain extraordinary hard. The back of my neck and head felt like they were going to pop from the straining. In fact I saw Dr. Snyder to make sure nothing had broken in my neck or back of my head. My peeing still bothered me so the last time I saw Dr. Arsht on July 11, 2007 I asked him what my options to open up the flow were. Dr. Arsht indicted that the two medicines I am taking daily were maxed out and there are no other medicines available that can help me. He suggested, after explaining to me, that laser surgery may be an option. Dr. Arsht recommended Dr. Salva for the procedure. My question came about because Dr. Arsht had me pee into an instrument which shows I much I peed and a diagram of the flow. An ultra sound was also done to see how much water was still in my bladder. The results were that I was leaving 5 ounces in my bladder. I was scheduled to see Dr. Salva on August 6. 2007. Monday August 6, 2007I underwent the exploratory procedure given by Dr Salva to see what my prostate looks like. Dr Salva said I have nodules next to the bladder which is cutting off my normal flow. He recommended that I undergo a laser procedure to cut the nodules off. I am scheduled for the procedure on September 10, 2007 in the morning at the Springfield Hospital. Toni was with me as he explained the procedure and what he would be doing. Dr. Salva also plans to do a biopsy of my prostate since I will be under general anesthesia. Toni and I also went to Dr. Snyder’s office to make sure there would be a valid referral for this procedure. I am to call Dr. Snyder’s office a week before the procedure is scheduled to make sure that the referral is in place. I plan to take the week of September 10th off from work. Thursday, August 9, 2007I called Dr Salva this morning expressing my concerns concerning my exploratory event from this past Monday. He said that what I was experiencing was normal because there is swelling inside after the fact. I should be back to normal in a few days. Sunday, August 19, 2007I am calling Dr Salva tomorrow to discuss my current situation in that I am leaking after peeing. I am leaking a drop of blood randomly through the day which is staining my underpants. I am using tissues and toilet paper to absorb the leak. This has been going on since Dr. Salva did his exploratory on me August 6, 2007. I called him previously about this issue on August 9, 2007. I do not consider this normal. Will write here what I find out. Monday, August 20, 2007I spoke with Dr. Stephen Salva this morning from work. I explained what was going on with my seeping blood out of my penis. He said the cause of my blood seeping comes from the prostate. He indicated that I may have an infection or I lifted something heavy. He also said that the healing process in my prostate is trying to form a scab but that my peeing is disrupting it to fully heal. Dr. Salva prescribed Ciprofloxacin HCL 500 MG Taran as a precaution in case I have an infection. I am to take one pill in the morning and one at night for five days. He stated that my laser surgery will stop the bleeding. It is scheduled for September 10, 2007. Tuesday, August 21, 2007I am taking the medicine prescribed by Dr Salva. I am also still seeping some blood through my penis. Thursday, August 23, 2007I am still seeping some blood but it seems to be less. I am still taking the medication for a possible infection each morning and night. This coming Monday I have to go to the Springfield Hospital for pre admission processing. Sunday, August 26, 2007I took my last pill for any prostate infection yesterday. It seems that as of yesterday I stopped seeping blood. Praise the Lord. Tomorrow Toni and I are going to the Springfield Hospital for my pre admission paperwork. We are to be there at 12:30 P. M. Monday, August 27, 2007Underwent pre admissions testing at Springfield Hospital starting at 1:00 P. M. Testing consisted of answering medical questions, blood pressure (139/79), EKG (normal), and blood drawn for typing. Toni was with me. I am scheduled for the laser surgery and biopsy on September 10, 2007. The hospital will call me on the time to be there. The nurse also explained the procedure. She indicated that it may take 1.
